Laws and Acts

LO1 - Understand the factors that need to be considered during the planning of a media product. Laws + Acts Freedom of Information Act - Allows the public the right to access any information (documents or data) held by the public authorities. This is an act which is designed to keep the general public 'in the know' about the actions of their government. This is important for media as it allows media creators access to official records and sources to provide evidence for their media product. Intellectual Property Act - Owners/creators of a product are granted exclusive rights which means that others cannot steal the product. Intellectual property within media can be things such as trade secrets and the designs within the media product (similar to copyright). Data Protection Act - Personal and private documents stored on computers ar perfected from any hackers or unauthorised access. Legal and Ethical Issues in Media

LO1 - Understand the factors that need to be considered during the planning of a media product. Definitions Legal Issue - something identified within the project which could  potentially lead to breaking the law if not addressed. (eg. a risk assessment must always be done.) Ethical Issue - something identified within the project which could potentially lead to complaints if not addressed. (eg. a lack of diversity within the project)

LO1 - Understand the factors that need to be considered during the planning of a media product. Director A director must be able to lead an entire crew and organise them into creating the advert correct to his vision. A director must also have some background within the arts in order to be able to envision a media product. Directors must have good communication skills and be able to work under high-stress environments, quickly thinking of decisions incase of anything going wrong. A director must be assertive in order to co-oridnate everyone they work with but willing to share and create ideas within the entire team. Editor Editors must be able to communicate well with the director in order to make sure the final media product is how the director envisioned it and has made the most out of the original script. LO1- Understand the factors that need to be considered during the planning of a media product. Key Terms Revenue - The money that is coming into the business (income). Profit - The money made after costs have been paid for. All the money that exceeds the cost. Revenue Stream - The ways in which the company is making money. Revenue Streams Sponsorship - Money pay from other organisations in order for their own brand to be associated with the final media product. This involves product placement and is mutually beneficial. Crowdfunding - The product is promoted by social media networks and then funded by public contributions. Contributors may earn some benefits. Ideal for projects from amateurs. Needs a lot of supporters. Corporate Finance - Money is raised from businesses investing in the media product. Issues to consider Brand style and logo - This is important within the advert in order to make it recognisable and relatable to the brand. This makes the advert and the shoes more well known as they are connected. Financing - The budget and price of staff, location, transport etc. is important so that the advert that is planned is within the budget and the advert company do not run out of money. Product - The product in the advertisement must be established so the media company can figure out a plan, atmosphere and look for the advert that suits the product. Copyright - Any music used within the advert must have the copyright correctly payed for to avoid any lawsuits. Type of shoe - The type of shoe that needs to be in the advert must be established in order to base the advert around them and create a suitable advert (eg. a sporty advert for a trainer).
