Practise 16 Mark Question

Evaluate the effectiveness of using a storyboard within the pre-production and planning process of a media product. A storyboard is a useful way to plan a production by showing the progression of a narrative within the media product so all of the other members of the team can develop their areas based on it. A storyboard is a very effective way of planning a production as it provides key information about the scene such as action, the location of the scene and any actors used for the Raven promotional video. This is helpful as it means that the camera operators and lighting operators can figure out what the shot will look like and which resources they will need so logistics can be organised. However, a storyboard is less effective as it is not useful for all members of the production team and other documents such as scripts will be needed in order to show the actors the exact details of the scene. On the other hand, a storyboard can be a very effective way of planning a media p

Research For Media Products

Research can be primary (done directly by the media company or someone hired by the media company for that specific product) or secondary (conclusions gathered from other previous research). Primary Research Methods Online survey - an online questionnaire which can be sent to a large amount of people over the internet to gain lots of qualitative data and quantitative data depending on the questions used. Closed questions can gather lots of numerical data over what the target audience is interested on whereas open questions such as 'what are the key features you look for in an app?' allow for a more detailed insight into what the target audience will and will not like. Postal questionnaire - similar to an online survey with open and closed questions however there is a lower response rate as it is less easy to fill out and return to the researchers. Interviews - face to face questions asked to participants from the target audience o find out their beliefs, preferences

Site Maps

LO4 - Create and evaluate pre-production documents for a new media product. Site Maps Site maps are used to show the layout of how pages fit together on the screen. Site maps show a hierarchy of how each aspect of the webpage fit together in a tree root diagram. The homepage is represented as a trunk with the other pages coming off as webpages. Set Design

LO4 - Create and evaluate pre-production documents for a new media product. Set Design Set design is when documents are created to set out a scene for a TV or film set. These are either created in 2D to show the layout of any props in the set or in 3Ds o the view the cameras will be seen will been understood. These help to show the team how the shot will look and plan camera movements. The also show the production team what props must be built for the production. Examples of Set Design

Page Mock-Ups

LO4 - Create and evaluate pre-production documents for a new media product. Page Mock-Ups Page mock-ups are very similar to wireframes/flatplans except they include more detail such as content and colour used. They are used to gain feedback from clients and audiences before the final product is finished. Page mock-ups are used when creating interactive webpages and media products and are beginning to blend into prototypes in terms of their features due to new software. Examples of Page Mock-Ups

Prototypes

LO4 - Create and evaluate pre-production documents for a new media product. Prototypes Prototypes are early models of a media product that are especially important in interactive products where the final production will take a lot of time and resources. Prototypes allow for a testing of the concept in order to find out if the final product will meet it's needs. Prototypes do not look like the final product but include the key elements to be tested.
